PETE S. BATRA, MD, FACS

Biography
PETE S. BATRA, MD, FACS, is the Course Director and is an internationally recognized rhinologist who currently serves as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at Rush University Medical Center. He holds the Stanton Friedberg, MD Endowed Chair in Otolaryngology and serves as Co-Director of the Rush Center for Skull Base and Pituitary Surgery. He completed his internship and residency at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and then pursued fellowship training in rhinology, sinus surgery and endoscopic skull base surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Batra is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Otolaryngology, American Rhinologic Society, and the Triologic Society. Dr. Batra has given more than 200 invited presentations nationally and abroad on sinonasal and skull base disease. He has co-authored 150 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in these areas. He serves on the Executive Committee of the American Rhinologic Society as the Secretary and has received the American Academy of Otolaryngology Distinguished Service Award. His special clinical interests include management of refractory sinusitis and polyps, revision sinus surgery, management of CSF rhinorrhea, endoscopic orbital surgery, and minimally invasive skull base surgery for benign and malignant tumors.

INNA A. HUSAIN, MD

Biography
INNA A. HUSAIN, MD, is a Course Co-Director and Section Head of Laryngology at Rush University Medical Center. She completed medical school at UT Southwestern in Dallas and went on to complete her otolaryngology-head and neck surgery residency at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine. From there, she completed a one-year laryngology fellowship at the prestigious Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary/Harvard Medical School. She is now Director of the Voice, Airway, Swallowing Disorders Program and specializes in comprehensive management of laryngeal disorders. She is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and is an active member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, serving on both the Voice committee and the Laryngology and Bronchoesophagology Education committee. Her clinical interests include performing in-office laryngology procedures, management of laryngopharyngeal reflux, and care of the professional voice. Her research interests include quality-of-life in patients with LPR and management of subglottic stenosis.

BOBBY A. TAJUDEEN, MD

Biography
BOBBY A. TAJUDEEN, MD, is a Course Co-Director and currently serves as the Director of Otorhinolaryngology Research and Co-Director of the Rush Sinus Program. He completed medical school at the NYU School of Medicine, graduating with highest honors, and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Medical Honor Society. He completed residency in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at UCLA Medical Center, followed by a prestigious fellowship in rhinology, sinus surgery and endoscopic skull base surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, where he trained with leaders in the field of rhinology. Dr. Tajudeen has given numerous presentations nationally and has authored over 40 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in the last five years. He is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and belongs to several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Otolaryngology, the American Rhinologic Society, the Triological Society and North American Skull Base Society. His special clinical interests include management of refractory sinusitis and nasal polyposis, revision sinus surgery, management of CSF rhinorrhea, endoscopic orbital surgery, and minimally invasive skull base surgery for benign and malignant tumors.

R. MARK WIET, MD, FACS

Biography
R. MARK WIET, MD, FACS, is a Course Co-Director and is Head of the Section of Otology, Neurotology and Lateral Skull Base Surgery at Rush University and is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology. Dr. Wiet received his medical degree from the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago and completed a residency in otolaryngology/head and neck surgery at Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus. After his residency, he completed a two-year accredited fellowship in otology, neurotology and skull base surgery at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. During his fellowship, Wiet received a European Skull Base Society Fellows Award and an American Neurotology Society Fellows Award. An interest in lateral skull base disease management led him to Gruppo Otologico in central Italy, where he worked closely with Mario Sanna, MD, a leader in the field of lateral skull base surgery. Board-certified in otolaryngology and neurotology, Dr. Wiet specializes in the comprehensive management of acoustic neuroma and lateral skull base tumors; pediatric and adult implantable hearing devices, including cochlear implants; bone anchored hearing aids; and pediatric and adult general otology. Dr. Wiet is a member of many professional societies, including the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, the American Neurotology Society and the North American Skull Base Society.

ALEXANDER CHIU, MD

Biography
ALEXANDER CHIU, MD, is the Russell E. Bridwell, M.D. Endowed Chairman and Professor of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Kansas in Kansas City, KS. Previous to his appointment, he served as the Founding Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Arizona and started his career on faculty at the University of Pennsylvania. He has held multiple leadership roles, including co-Chair of Banner-UA Academic Management Council, Interim Chair of the UA Department of Surgery, UA Otolaryngology Residency Program Director and the Rhinology and Skull Base Surgery Fellowship Director at both the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Arizona. Dr. Chiu’s academic and clinical focus is in the field of endoscopic and minimally invasive surgery of the nose, sinuses and skull base. Dr. Chiu completed his medical degree at Albany Medical College and residency training in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Georgetown University Medical Center. He completed a fellowship in sinus and skull base surgery at Stanford University. Dr. Chiu is the editor-in-chief of ENT Today, a publication of the Triological Society; past editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Rhinology and Allergy; and the editor of 2 textbooks: Sinonasal Tumors and Atlas of Endoscopic Sinus and Skull Base Surgery, the latter of which just had its second edition published this fall. He has published over 130 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on sinus and skull base surgery. The recipient of the Honor Award from the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Dr. Chiu has directed over 15 international rhinologic and skull base conferences in the world and is a frequent invited lecturer and instructor at Otolaryngology Department Grand Rounds and society meetings of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, American Rhinologic Society and North American Skull Base Society.

GREGORY RANDOLPH,
MD, FACS, FACE

Biography
GREGORY RANDOLPH, MD, FACS, FACE is a Full Professor of Otolaryngology at Harvard Medical School, the Claire and John Bertucci Endowed Chair in Thyroid Surgical Oncology, and a surgeon at Mass. Eye and Ear, where he also serves as the Division Chief of both the General Otolaryngology and Thyroid and Parathyroid Endocrine Surgery Divisions and as a member of the Center for Thyroid Eye Disease and Orbital Surgery. With more than 25 years of experience in otolaryngology, Dr. Gregory Randolph specializes in thyroid and parathyroid surgery. He is currently serving as the President of the American Academy of Otolaryngology —Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS), as well the Chair of the Endocrine Surgery Committee of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology. He is Chair-Elect of the Endocrine Surgical Section of the American Head and Neck Society, and is on the Board of Directors of the International Thyroid Oncology Group. Alongside Dr. Henning Dralle of Germany, he founded the Global International Neural Monitoring Study Group, which has generated multiple publications and standards guidelines for neural monitoring at thyroid surgery.

C. BLAKE SIMPSON, MD

Biography
C. BLAKE SIMPSON, MD, is the Director of the University of Texas Voice Center and is a Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He received his undergraduate degree at Austin College and earned his medical degree at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. He completed a residency in otolaryngology at The University of Oklahoma, followed by a fellowship in Laryngology and Care of the Professional Voice at Vanderbilt University. He has been in practice in San Antonio since 1996 and specializes exclusively in the treatment of patients with voice and upper airway disorders. He has published extensively in the area of laryngology/voice disorders and co-authored the only textbook on the surgical treatment of voice disorders, Operative Techniques in Laryngology.

SAMER AL-KHUDARI, MD

Biography
SAMER AL-KHUDARI, MD, FACS, completed medical school at Rush Medical College, his residency in otolaryngology, head and neck surgery at the Henry Ford Health System, and his fellowship in head and neck oncology and microvascular surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Head and Neck Institute. Dr. Al-khudari is board-certified with a clinical interest in head and neck cancer surgery, microvascular reconstruction of the head and neck (free-flap surgery), minimally invasive (robotic) head and neck surgery, thyroid cancer and goiters, and Zenker diverticulum. He belongs to several organizations, including the Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy, American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, American Head and Neck Society, Michigan Otolaryngological Society, and the Syrian American Medical Society.

ASHOK JAGASIA, MD, PhD

Biography
ASHOK A. JAGASIA, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at Rush University Medical Center, and the Director of Rush Oak Park Otolaryngology. Dr. Jagasia graduated with a PhD from Rush University, and was one of the first to determine the role of the p16 tumor suppressor gene in the development of chondrosarcoma. He also did a 2 year research fellowship in the area of leukemia and lymphoma at Loyola Medical Center, and has published several articles establishing the role of p16 tumor suppressor gene in the pathogenesis of both solid and hematopoietic malignancies. Dr. Jagasia also completed his MD followed by his residency in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery from Rush University Medical Center, and is American Board of Otolaryngology. He has been actively engaged in the Rush Global Health program with multiple surgical trips to the Dominican Republic, in addition to several projects in rural parts of India. Furthermore, he has been working with the homeless population in Chicago, establishing needs related to otolaryngology. At present, Dr. Jagasia is working on a research study in conjunction with Northwestern Hospital in the area of Transtympanic non-invasive delivery of antibiotics using nanoparticles which can potentially have a global impact in the treatment of otitis media, and reduce the need for surgery. Dr. Jagasia has particular interest and expertise in both pediatric and adult otolaryngology, including the area of paranasal sinus disease, endoscopic sinus surgery, thyroid, parathyroid, malignant salivary gland tumors and sleep apnea.

JILL JEFFE, MD

Biography
JILL S. JEFFE, MD, FACS, completed medical school at Northwestern University, her residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at Northwestern University, and her fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Dr. Jeffe is board-certified in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. She has many clinical interests in diseases of the head and neck in children, with special emphasis on pediatric airway stenosis, endoscopic airway surgery, laryngotracheal reconstruction, vascular anomalies, chronic sinusitis, chronic ear disease and sleep apnea. She belongs to several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology, and the Society for Ear, Nose and Throat Advances in Children.

PHILLIP S. LOSAVIO, MD

Biography
PHILLIP S. LOSAVIO, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at Rush University Medical Center and has a full-time clinical practice at Rush. He completed his undergraduate degree at Northwestern University and attended Rush Medical College. In medical school, he received the medical staff prize for clinical excellence and the Anthony Schmidt Award for outstanding work in the anatomical sciences. He was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society in his junior year and completed his otolaryngology residency at Rush. He served as the Otolaryngology Medical Student Course Director from 2007-2014 and held the position of Department Safety Officer from 2013-2016. He was appointed to the role of Residency Program Director in 2016. He is an active member of the otolaryngology community serving as the current secretary of the Chicago Laryngological and Otologic Society. He currently is a member of the AAO-HNS General Otolaryngology Education Committee, Home Study Course Workgroup, Sleep Disorders Committee and consultant for the PSQI Committee. He practices general otolaryngology/sleep surgery in adults and children with a special interest in drug-induced sleep endoscopy, hypoglossal nerve stimulation, paranasal sinus disease in OSA, and salivary gland disorders.

Biography
PETER PAPAGIANNOPOULOS, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Section of Rhinology and Skull Base Surgery at Rush University Medical Center and serves as the Director of Rush Oak Brook Otolaryngology. He completed medical school at Rush Medical College where he graduated with the highest honors and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Medical Honor Society. He completed his residency in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at Rush University Medical Center, serving as chief resident during his final year of training. He then followed residency with a prestigious fellowship in Rhinology and endoscopic skull base surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, where he trained with the founders and leaders of the field of rhinology. Dr. Papagiannopoulos has given numerous presentations nationally and has authored multiple journal articles and book chapters related to chronic sinusitis as well as the surgical management of sinus tumors and reconstruction of the skull base. His special interests include management of refractory chronic sinusitis, nasal polyposis, smell disorders, Aspirin Exacerbated Respiratory Disease, repair of cerebrospinal fluid leaks, and minimally invasive endoscopic resection of benign and malignant skull base tumors.

PETER C. REVENAUGH, MD, FACS

Biography
PETER C. REVENAUGH, MD, FACS, is Head of the Section of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Officer for the Department of Otorhinolaryngology. He completed advanced fellowship training in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery at Johns Hopkins University following residency at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Revenaugh is an active member of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and has authored numerous journal articles and book chapters related to complex aesthetic and reconstructive techniques. He also has an passion for humanitarian work and has traveled extensively, providing surgical care to areas of the developing world. Dr. Revenaugh leads a team of surgeons known for their comprehensive and collaborative approach to aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. The team’s clinical expertise and research interests include noninvasive and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures for facial rejuvenation, cosmetic and functional nasal surgery, rehabilitation for facial paralysis, and advanced facial reconstructive and microvascular surgery following head and neck cancer.

RYAN M. SMITH, MD

Biography
RYAN M. SMITH, MD, is an assistant professor in the Section of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Rush and serves as Director of South Loop Otolaryngology for the Department. Smith joined the faculty in August 2018 after completing advanced fellowship training in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he focused exclusively on facial aesthetic surgery, head and neck reconstruction following cancer treatment, and reanimation for patients with facial paralysis. He received his medical degree from Rush Medical College, then stayed at Rush to complete his residency in head and neck surgery, serving as chief resident during his final year of training. Smith has authored numerous journal articles and book chapters related to complex aesthetic and reconstructive facial plastic surgery techniques. His research interests include facial rejuvenation techniques, quality-of-life improvement after cosmetic surgery, microvascular reconstruction and facial transplantation.

KERSTIN M. STENSON, MD, FACS

Biography
KERSTIN M. STENSON, MD, FACS, completed her residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at University of Illinois in Chicago and her fellowship in head and neck surgical oncology and microvascular reconstruction at the University of Michigan. She is an active member in the American Head and Neck Society and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. She serves on the editorial board of Head and Neck, and has more than 100 head and neck-related publications and book chapters. Dr. Stenson has expertise in all aspects of head and neck surgical oncology for head and neck tumors, from those with early-stage cancer who require local reconstructions, to those with advanced tumors whose care entails a multidisciplinary treatment approach. She has special interest in patients with recurrent tumors and those who have recurrences, complications after chemoradiation and complex wounds.

CYNTHIA (CINDY) HILDNER
MS CCC-SLP

Biography

CYNTHIA (CINDY) HILDNER, MS CCC-SLP, is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist at Rush University Medical Center. She is a voice specialist and responsible for evaluation and treatment of voice disorders including instrumental and rigid stroboscopic assessments and behavioral treatment methods. She has specialty interests in rehabilitation of occupational/professional voice disorders, Paradoxical Vocal Fold Motion, Chronic Cough and swallowing disorders. Ms. Hildner has extensive experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist, adjunct instructor of voice disorders and dysphagia, graduate clinical instructor and supervisor for over 25 years. She received her B.S. from Augustana College and M.S. in communicative disorders from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

BRIAN KIM, MD

Biography
BRIAN KIM, MD, is an academic endocrinologist whose practice focuses on thyroid cancer. Dr. Kim trained in internal medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, and completed his fellowship in endocrinology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. After serving on the faculty at the Brigham and Harvard Medical School, he went on to lead the thyroid cancer team at the Sylvester Cancer Center at the University of Miami. He joined the faculty of Rush University Medical Center in 2014 as the director of the thyroid cancer program for endocrinology, and assumed the role of Chief of Endocrinology in 2015.

MAHBOOBEH (MAHA) MAHDAVINIA, MD, PHD

Biography
MAHBOOBEH (MAHA) MAHDAVINIA, MD, PHD, attended Tehran University Medical School, during which she developed major interest in medical research especially in field of Immunology. After that she decided to expand her research training by completing a PhD program at G d’Annunzio University in Italy. Dr. Mahdavinia came to US for her graduate medical training after finishing her PhD and completed a residency in Internal Medicine at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center followed by Allergy/Immunology fellowship at Northwestern University. After completing a third year research fellowship at Northwestern in June 2014, she joined the Allergy/Immunology division of Rush University Medical Center as an assistant professor. Her research interest includes pathophysiology and epidemiology of Chronic Rhinosinusitis. She has published multiple peer-reviewed papers and has received several grants and awards for her research.

EMILY WANG, PHD, CCC-SLP

Biography
EMILY WANG, PHD, CCC-SLP, is the chairperson and an associate professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. She specializes in the evaluation and treatment of motor speech disorders and swallowing disorders resulting from neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, multiple sclerosis and ALS (including videofluoroscopic swallowing examination and videostroboscopic voice examination).

KENYA M. WILLIAMS, MD

Biography
KENYA M. WILLIAMS, MD, is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist who is fellowship trained in Oculoplastic, Reconstructive and Orbital Surgery. She is a native of Chicago and received her medical degree from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Sciences/The Chicago Medical School. Dr. Williams completed her residency with the Department of Ophthalmology at State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY. She completed her fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She specializes in the evaluation and treatment of problems of the eyelid, eye socket and tear duct that are a result of aging, trauma, and tumors. She teaches Ocuplastic and Reconstructive Surgery to the residents and Rush University Medical Center and Stroger Hospital of Cook County.

PAULA K. LAPINSKI

Biography
PAULA K. LAPINSKI, MD, FACMS, FAAD attended and earned her degree in pre-professional studies at The University of Notre Dame, graduating with Honors as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She went on to attend Northwestern University School of Medicine and completed her internship at Evanston-Northwestern Hospital. She completed her residency in Dermatology at The University of Texas-Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, one of the premier programs in the country.Dr. Lapinski’s interest in patients with skin cancer led her to complete an additional year of training at The University of Texas-Southwestern Medical Center in the area of Mohs micrographic surgery.

JOSE L. RIOS, MD

Biography
JOSE L. RIOS, MD attended Princeton University and earned his undergraduate degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. He later went to New York University School of Medicine to earn his medical degree, performed his residency and fellowship at The University of Texas Southwestern. Rios is a board-certified plastic surgeon who has decades of plastic surgery experience and rigorous training.
